The
Toledo District of Belize offers many attractions. The Toledo Tour
Guide Assocoation invites you to see this beautiful diverse area
through the eyes of the local people: Creole, East Indian, Garifuna,
Maya and Mestizo.
TTGA
members are qualified land and marine guides for the Toledo District
and are located in Punta Gorda, Hopeville, Forest Home,
Eldridgeville, Indian Creek, San Pedro Columbia, San Antonio, Santa
Cruz, Blue Creek, Aguacate, and Santa Teresa. Some of our guides are
specialist in caving, kayaking, medicinal plants, fly fishing,
snorkelling, scuba, birding, nature trails, rivers and wildlife
identification. Most of the Association members are multi-lingual
with English the spoken tongue. |

The
Toledo Tour Guide Association (TTGA) was officially formed on
December 31, 1994 in accordance with Statutory Instrument No. 80,
1994, Belize Tourist Board (Tour Guide) Regulation 1994 which is
basically enacted for the benefit and protection of Belizean license
tour guides. It also compelled tour guides to form local
associations; attend certain specific training courses; and obtain
tour guide licenses.
The
Toledo Tour Guide President sits on the BTB License Committee where
issues/concerns/decisions are discussed and implemented affecting
the industry. TTGA hold general meetings every two months to share
and learn what is new in the industry. The months in between TTGA
schedules field trips in the area to further educate its members.
TTGA is represented on the Port Honduras Marine Reserve, The
Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve, and the BTB License Committee. The
Toledo Tourism Police Unit also provide a current report on their
activities in the District..
The
Toledo Tour Guide Association By Laws of 1995 states as its
objectives:
a) fostering the
development of ecotourism in Toledo in conjunction with Government
policies b) lobbying for favorable ecotourism policies c)
providing training programs and technical assistance d)
developing marketing strategies e) encouraging cooperation
among similar organizations f) researching technology for
social and economic benefits |
